Stepping Out

There was a time when infidelity was unacceptable. Intolerable. Disgraceful. In Puritan days of the 1640’s it was punishable by death.

If you were lucky, you might be lucky enough to simply have the Scarlet Letter “A” plastered on your chest for every one to see.

Fast forward some 300 years and we have the ‘60’s. Free love, drugs, alcohol and sex were the norm.

You shared everything and everyone. And no one blinked an eye. It was all in the name of mankind, equality and sharing.

( I would have loved to have experienced THAT era!! I can be very sharing. )

Move another 50 years to the present and we have movies, tv, books and real life blasting us with sex from every direction.

Commercials for drugs and lubricants to enhance sex are as common as ads for air fresheners.

Movies such as Unfaithful portraying cheating as desperate, passionate, immoral and deadly.

(Awesome movie, by the way. Richard Gere, Oliver Martinez and Diane Lane. HOT SEX !)

Talk shows discussing infidelity openly and candidly, as if they were discussing the new spring fashion line.

Girlfriends discussing their own cheating, or plans to cheat, or asking other friends to cover for them….

PEOPLE !! The BFF’s are even cheating-- WITH each other !!

(K, that’s kinda hot tho….)

Is there more cheating going on than before?

Or are we just talking more openly about it?

Does society accept cheating more easily now than it used to?

Or is society just more tolerant and turning a blind eye to it?
