How many places can one person be online at one time anymore??? Holy crackers !!! There was a time in simple space when the only way to reach anyone was via a home phone or a physical address....
I started out with ICQ messenger, then went to Yahoo Messenger…then there was AIM Messenger, I dabbled in Classmates.com, then got brave and went to OMG>>>>>Myspace….
Yeah, good ole Myspace…..Talk about a cesspool of online bacteria !!! Chripes !!
In one year I have been myself, been someone I wished I was, been someone I'm not, been fucked up one side and down another, been tied up and twisted, been accepted, deleted and then recreated, once, twice, three times....been nearly divorced and then renewed....
And then along comes Facebook....talk about living in a small town atmosphere....I thought I escaped that oh-so-simple lifestyle by moving to Forida. Facebook is about as threatening as a Disney Movie on a Sunday night.
Swapping between Myspace and Facebook is like having a split personality. I have some of the same friends on both but there are those on Facebook that have no idea who I am on Myspace....and it's probly best kept that way...LOL I don't know that they would understand...
I have five different email addresses. Two for business, one for private stuff, one for junk mail and one for family and friends.
I have profiles for Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, Classmates, Blogger, FetLife, Google, Ebay, Amazon, Hotmail, PayPal, Pizza Hut, FedEX, CraigsList, Tmobile, yada yada yada....I actually had to download a password keeper to keep track of all my logins and passwords....
My daughter is 11. She has more online personalities than I can keep track of !! LOL I boot my computer and 3 IM programs load up. She is more literate at creating profiles and the secrets behind them than the geeks that created them in the first place. (Yes, I keep tabs on her....I ain't THAT behind the times !!)
Where has the personal in personality gone?
Newspapers are getting lost cuz everyone gets their news from Yahoo or AOL online. Twitter is the hottest new NEWS thing. Birthdays and holidays are recognized by E-Cards. HallMark has gone to 99 cent cards...competing with dollar stores for actual physical greetings. We text quick messages to friends and family and leave voice mails for others. Business is conducted by NetMeetings, loans are closed via uploads and faxes. Bills are e-bills and nowadays our mailboxes are filled only with postcards for advertisements and stuff from the IRS. Most of which hits the recycle bin in our garage.
I can Google Earth anyone anywhere as long as I have a physical address. All I need is your last name and state or just an address, I can find you. I can see your house from the sky. I can find how much you paid for your house, when and from who. I will know how many square feet it is and what you pay in taxes. From there I can find out who you married, who your family is and who your children are...and that's just ME. I'm nobody. And I could care less. But even I can find this shit out...
Kinda scary?
Welcome to today's world. Those of us over 40, think back to when we were in high school...imagine how easy it would have been to get laid then by simple sexting a pic of your dick to your girlfriend !!!
